For larger aperture scopes the moon's brightness can be overwhelming (and even painful to look at). Assuming it's a 1.25" diameter filter, it will be threaded to fit into 1.25" eyepieces that will have internal threading to attach the filter with. The moon filter is used to reduce incoming light when observing the moon. If you have any urge to clean the scope, do lots of reading first to be certain you're following the proper procedures. Dust buildup on the mirror is normal/inevitable and will not noticeably affect its performance. Cleaning the mirrors of a telescope requires a very delicate process and its generally advised to avoid it unless it's absolutely necessary. Consider buying a laser collimator or cheshire collimator if that accessory was not already included.Īlso, since you've just inherited the scope and its probably many years old, I feel the need to warn you about cleaning it in case you have that urge. Since your scope is a Newtonian reflector it's going to require collimation to properly align your primary and secondary mirrors for the best viewing performance. Your money will be better invested into newer and superior quality eyepieces. However, 0.965" is pretty much a discontinued standard and it's likely not worth your time/money.
