Razon’s wins hands-down, but a noble effort on Mangan’s part. We used to think Mangan’s version was great, but then, we had the Razon’s halo-halo after which it was patterned and we knew the difference. If you’re talking about imitators, Mangan offered the “Guagua halo-halo” a few months before Razon’s opened in Metro Manila. Perhaps some of the other branches where standards are not so good are franchises? I know that franchises must ideally maintain the same standards as the original, but it’s partly up to the parent company to monitor that such is the case. At the time, I asked her if she was thinking of opening more branches in Metro Manila and she seemed hesitant since she made the palabok sauce at her house in Valle Verde and was worried about maintaing quality if she opened in locations far from her home.
